WILDLIFE AND ENVIRONMENTAL SOCIETY OF MALAWI

LILONGWE BRANCH

The Lilongwe branch was established in 1975 shortly after Lilongwe had become Malawi’s capital. WESM had previously been based in Blantyre and Lilongwe was the first separate WESM branch. Like the Blantyre base, the Lilongwe branch was established by individuals concerned with the preservation of wildlife diversity. Interested people started joining and performing voluntary work.  The branch now covers seven disticts: Ntchisi, Lilongwe, Kasungu, Mchinji, Dedza, Dowa and Salima.
